Join us on Cortes Island from Friday, August 21, to Monday, August 24, for TLC’s 2026 Deertrails Naturalist Program!

This workshop offers a unique opportunity to step away from the everyday and immerse yourself in the wonders of British Columbia’s natural world. Through guided field experiences, inspiring discussions, and hands-on learning with renowned naturalists and educators, participants will explore Cortes Island’s ecology, biodiversity, wildlife, and stewardship initiatives while developing the skills to observe, understand, and care for the landscapes around them.

Whether you’re a student, artist, educator, outdoor enthusiast, or simply curious about the living world, Deertrails is designed to spark curiosity, foster meaningful connections, and inspire a lifelong relationship with nature.

This year’s workshop features sessions on fungi and lichen identification (Juliet Pendray); circular farming and land stewardship (Tamara McPhail); nature-based therapy (Sarah Smith), creative writing (Maleea Acker) and photography (James Holkko) practices; braiding indigenous and western knowledges and decolonization practices (Duane J. Hanson); wetland ecology and restoration (Autumn Barrett-Morgan), and more!

Make sure to apply early; there are only 16 spots available for this workshop. The application period closes on July 31.
