Abkhazi Garden

The Abkhazi Garden is a heritage home and garden. This charming garden is a love story between Prince and Princess Abkhazi who began building the garden in 1946 and continued to do so for 40 more years. After their deaths the Garden changed hands, and in February 2000, The Land Conservancy purchased the property to save it from becoming a townhouse development.
The garden embraces the natural landscape that is unique to Victoria. Beautiful rhododendrons (some 120+ years old) Japanese maples and other stunning flowering species flow around natural rocky outcrops and native Garry oak trees. The garden is frequented by many types of pollinators, songbirds and currently, the pond is a favourite perching spot for local great blue heron. Read more…

Welland Legacy Orchard
Picnic & pick up a fruit tree to take home!
This small but mighty 0.3 hectare orchard is home to 200 fruit trees and is one of the largest and most diverse community orchards in Canada. The orchard was covenanted by TLC after the passing of the late owner, Rex Welland, who was an avid gardener and passionate native pollinator advocate. The orchard is maintained by the LifeCycles Project, a local non-profit whose mission is to ” build a resilient food system in Greater Victoria by growing, harvesting, and sharing food”. Havenwood Park
A green sanctuary in the city.
Havenwood Park is a beautiful example of what urban greenspaces provides for communities, particularly as large tracts of Canada’s most endangered forest ecosystems are quickly becoming rare. This 16.5 hectare property is on Xwsepsum, Lekungen, Sc’ianew and T’Souke traditional territories and is home to several rare and endangered plant and animal species including Mossy rock/ Garry Oak outcrops. Barer and Kinghorn Covenants (Mt. Work Park)
Get your steps in with your teen!
Barer and Kinghorn covenants are located just next to each other within the CRD’s Mount Work Regional Park. With a combined 129.7 hectares, these covenants are a vast expanse of Coastal Douglas-fir forests. In its wetter areas, the ecologically-significant Barer covenant is home to red-legged frogs, a BC blue-listed species and a COSEWIC species of “special concern”. Pack a lunch and hike to the peak where you can lookout to the Southern Gulf Islands and Mount Baker. The Summit trail (accessible via Munn Road & Ross-Durance parking lots) is a 5.5km out & back hike that takes approximately 2 hours to complete. Read more…

Howard Horel Nature Reserve
Island hop to your next adventure!
Covenanted by TLC and owned by the Saltspring Island Conservancy, the reserve is part of the globally rare Coastal Douglas-fir zone, which comprises just one quarter of one percent of British Columbia. This nature reserve is located on Saltspring Island within the unceded territory and ancestors of Coast Salish First Nations including the Quw’utsun Tribes (Cowichan), Spune’luxutth (Penelakut), BOḰEĆEN (Paquachin), MÁLEXEȽ (Malahat), SȾÁUTW̱ (Tsawout), W̱JOȽEȽP (Tsartlip) and W̱SIḴEM (Tseycum) nations.
An easy walk along grassy roads and leashed-dog friendly! Seven Species at Risk have been found here—Band-tailed Pigeon, Olive-sided Flycatcher, Threaded Vertigo Snail—plus four lichen species: Streaked Horsehair, Pitted Beard, Peacock Vinyl and Fourty-five Vinyl.
