This property is home to two very important elements which make it ideal for the site of a conservation covenant. Almost two-thirds of the property is covered by British Columbia’s second most endangered ecosystem: the Garry oak ecosystem. Associated with plant communities that contain one-fifth of the rarest plants in British Columbia, the Garry oak ecosystem is unique in B.C. to the Gulf Islands, Southern Vancouver Island, and the isolated areas of the Southern Mainland. This covenant protects the remaining Garry oak ecosystems and part of the Fulford Creek estuary. As the site of a mixing of salt and fresh water, the estuary has abundant species diversity. Furthermore, the Fulford Creek supports 50-100 juvenile salmon every year.
