141 hectares located on Texada Island, covenanted in 2003
This is a relatively undisturbed example of the endangered Coastal Douglas-fir ecosystem (CDF). The Coastal Douglas-fir zone is limited to a small part of southeastern Vancouver Island, several islands in the Gulf of Georgia, and a narrow strip of the adjacent mainland. Less than 1% of this area remains undeveloped and unlogged. The property contains a wide range of habitat types from mature and old growth forests to rocky cliffs and two wetlands. The water bodies and creeks on the two lots play a key role in the health of the watershed of this area. The rocky bluffs are sensitive areas since they have poor soil development, are very dry, and do not recover easily from disturbance. The covenant allows the resident farmer to continue operating while protected these sensitive ecosystem areas.
