Upcoming TLC and CRD restoration work party at Ayum Creek Regional Park Reserve from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on December 4, 2021.

Restoration activities will include pulling invasive periwinkle (Vinca minor) and layering cardboard over top.

Participants should dress in layers, be prepared for the weather, and bring a bottle of water. We will be working outdoors in uneven terrain which requires a sturdy pair of shoes. Hand sanitizer, masks, and social distancing will be utilized to maintain participant safety during the pandemic. Vaccine passports will be required to participate in this event.

Please email lbron@conservancy.bc.ca to register for this event.

Ayum Creek Regional Park Reserve is a Capital Regional District (CRD) park reserve that has a conservation covenant co-held by The Land Conservancy of British Columbia (TLC) and Habitat Acquisition Trust (HAT) since 1998. Many groups have participated in creek, riparian, and forest restoration efforts over the past 25 years to support the salmon-bearing Ayum Creek and interconnected ecosystems. Since 2017, TLC has been conducting a restoration research project at Ayum Creek to determine an effective method for controlling periwinkle (Vinca minor), a garden-escapee invasive plant. Preliminary results from this project have shown a significant decrease in periwinkle where “lasagna-gardening” has been placed. During the upcoming work party, volunteers will join the CRD and TLC in continuing efforts in controlling periwinkle and celebrating the return of in person restoration events.
