Embassy of Georgia to Canada

Press Release

Since his arrival in Canada in 2017, Ambassador Konstantin Kavtaradze introduced the Ambassador’s Award of Excellence as a way of recognizing those institutions and individuals whose efforts contributed to the closer political, trade, cultural, educational and people-to-people relations between Canada and Georgia. The Award is presented annually by the Ambassador himself.

Previous recipients of the Award include teachers of the Toronto Georgian Sunday School (2017), Toronto-based choir “Darbazi” and ensemble “Trio” that focuses exclusively on performing traditional Georgian polyphony (2018), children’s dance group “Iverioni” and the Olympic Centre of judo and Georgian wrestling in North York (2019). Because of the Pandemic, the Award was not presented in 2020.

Among the recipients of the 2021 Award are: The Land Conservancy of British Columbia for saving and developing the Abkhazi Garden; the Georgian wine enthusiast Pascal Roy for starting the Georgian Winery in Vancouver; the President of Camp My Way Terrance Kosikar for raising awareness about PTSD and mental health; Georgian Diaspora in BC for promoting young Georgian Olympian Nodar Kumaritashvili’s legacy.
