THE LAND CONSERVANCY OF BC APPOINTS NEW CHAIR TO BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Victoria, BC – The Board of Directors of The Land Conservancy of BC (TLC) has appointed Frances Sloan Sainas as its Chair.
Sloan Sainas, a retired educator and former manager in the hospitality industry, has been an active TLC Member since 2001. She was elected to the Board of Directors in September 2015.
“The time has come to offer my skills, knowledge and time to help TLC explore and find a new, sustainable direction that is grounded in the organization’s founding principles and values,” said Frances Sloan Sainas. “I believe in prudent fiscal management with an open and transparent review of risk and financial expenditures. I applaud the past and especially the current TLC Board members for their perseverance and efforts to navigate the organization through a very difficult restructuring and emerge successfully.”
Andrew Stewart, a newly appointed member of the Board of Directors, has been selected as Secretary. Stewart joins the Board with a background in law.
The appointments follow the terms of Tom Watson and Frances Pugh as Co-Chairs from December 2015 to March 2017. Both Watson and Pugh remain on the Board, the latter as Vice-Chair. TLC’s Board Treasurer remains Lori Roter.
“On behalf of the TLC, I wish to thank Tom and Frances for their continued efforts to support the organization,” said Frances Sloan Sainas. “Throughout TLC’s successful restructuring they have each dedicated enormous amounts of time to making our non-profit the secure and sustainable land trust it is today.”
TLC is governed by a Board of a maximum of 13 directors who oversee policies and priorities on strategic acquisitions, financial management and governance development for the organization. The Board currently sits at eight members.
The Board meet regularly on the fourth Saturday of the month. TLC Members are welcome to attend the public portion of Board meetings. Meetings are held at 10 a.m. at TLC’s office in the Gonzales Observatory, located at 302 Denison Road, Victoria, unless otherwise posted. An Annual General Meeting is expected to be held September 23, however the location is yet be determined.
