We four new TLC Board members allowed our names to stand for election because we believe in the vitally important work that the TLC does to support conservation throughout the province.
We are honoured that the membership vested their trust in us through the democratic process that governs selection of the Board. All of us were able to be at the Annual General Meeting where we were pleased to join with everyone in celebrating some of TLC campaigns and successes — like the Clearwater Wetlands and Wildlife Corridor, Sandcut Beach on Vancouver Island, Madrona Farm in Saanich, and the Horsefly River expansion project in central BC (to name a few). It was especially exciting to hear the announcement at the AGM that just this week TLC helped to save the Malamute bluffs at the base of the Stawamus Chief in the Squamish area.
We were also there to hear and learn about issues, feelings, and concerns raised by TLC members. As new Board members we felt the full and frank discussion at the AGM highlighted the commitment of the Board to listen and to act where necessary. There may not be total agreement, but everyone was heard.
At the end of the meeting it seemed clear to us that the overwhelming majority want to move forward with ensuring that TLC not only survives, but thrives and prospers.
As new Board members this is what we, along with the more experienced Board members and TLC Management, are committed to achieve. It’s time to come together and get on with the vital task of saving BC’s special places.
Signed:
Nitya Harris, Mel Lehan, Fred Newhouse, Mary Sanseverino
