Endowment Funds help build a sustainable foundation for the future.

Protecting wild spaces in perpetuity requires financial resources that will last just as long. Endowment funds are powerful tools that TLC uses to establish permanent, self-sustaining sources of support for our vital work and the properties we preserve.

How endowment funds work:

Making a donation to an endowment fund is like giving a gift that will keep on giving. Once added to an endowment, your money is invested by a fund manager, who guarantees a specified rate of return. Each year, TLC receives interest on the investment to use on current projects and operations as required. The principal is reinvested for future years, giving TLC the financial stability to make effective long-term plans for the stewardship of BC’s wild places.

TLC has established the following Endowment Funds:

TLC 25th Anniversary Endowment Fund

In 2022, TLC celebrated its 25th year of protecting critical ecosystems and vital habitats. Today the organization protects 248 conservation covenants covering a combined 13,000 acres and 2,791 acres of habitat where we manage and hold title. To celebrate TLC’s 25th anniversary of conservation, donors, including members of our Board, established the 25th Anniversary Fund to support our most sensitive ecosystems and habitats. Donate toward the endowment fund through TLC or directly to the Victoria Foundation.

Briony Penn Endowment Fund

The Briony Penn Endowment Fund to support naturalist education. To recognize Briony Penn for her decades of contributions to the conservation movement, TLC’s Board of Directors have created an endowment fund in her name at the Victoria Foundation to support educational programming by TLC, such as the Deertrails Naturalist Program.

Ruffed Grouse Endowment Fund

The Ruffed Grouse Endowment Fund was established to support TLC in its efforts to provide educational opportunities that connect people with nature. Annual grants from the endowment may be used to provide bursaries to students who wish to take part in these programs and can demonstrate a financial need.

Coppin Family Endowment Fund for the Clearwater Wildlife Corridor

This fund was established by Chris Coppin, in honour of his late wife, Colleen Coppin. The Coppin Family Fund for TLC’s Clearwater Wildlife Corridor is held at the Victoria Foundation and the purpose of the Fund is to support stewardship, restoration, education, and research activities on the TLC’s Clearwater Wildlife Corridor.

Jack Eldridge Memorial Fund for Abkhazi Garden

A TLC Member for more than 18 years, Jack was a hands-on volunteer at many of the land trust’s sites, but no site saw more of Jack’s passion and care than Abkhazi Garden in Victoria. To commemorate his legacy, TLC created the Jack Eldridge Memorial Fund for Abkhazi Garden from the generous bequest Jack thoughtfully left the organization. This fund will help ensure that Abkhazi Garden is protected for the community to enjoy and honour Jack’s lasting legacy.

TLC Endowment Fund

The TLC Endowment Fund supports all the work we do throughout BC – from acquisition, to maintenance, to public awareness. Growing this fund is critical to the survival of the properties we care for, and the ones we’re still fighting to protect. Your donation of $1,000 or more can help us grow this fund, and build a legacy that will last the test of time. The TLC endowment fund is held with the Victoria Foundation.

TLC’s Ours Forever Endowment Fund

Specifically created to support TLC’s work in the Capital Region, this fund helps TLC save special places under threat from development pressures on southern Vancouver Island and, where possible, keep them open for everyone to enjoy. TLC Ours Forever Endowment Fund is held with the Victoria Foundation.

Margarete Tumbach Agricultural Stewardship Endowment Fund

Established in memory of Margarete Tumbach – a TLC staff member who died in a tragic hiking accident – proceeds from this fund help preserve BC’s precious agricultural lands, and support TLC’s agricultural stewardship programs. The Margarete Anna Tumbach Agricultural Stewardship Endowment Fund is held with the Vancouver Foundation.

TLC The Land Conservancy of BC Endowment Fund – South Okanagan

Similar to our general TLC Endowment Fund, this fund provides support for TLC projects in BC’s famous Okanagan Valley. This fund is held by the Community Foundation of the South Okanagan.
