In May, TLC staff members Torrey and Andrew accompanied the Cowichan District school teachers during their Pro-D day for a hike along the Cowichan River. Richard Matthews, Cowichan Valley District Counsellor, reached out to TLC and Kai Reitzel of the Cowichan Valley Land Trust for us to join them on a hike and educate the teachers on what land trusts do, how we do it, and why. It was a great day for a hike in the Cowichan Valley, and the route afforded many opportunities to discuss the surrounding ecology and what maintains its health. It was a great way to connect with local teachers to find out how they could be better supported in educating youth on the importance of conservation and ecological stewardship, all while being immersed in beautiful, riverside old growth forest.
